Picnics and toy airplanes

We started a tradition, once a year, on or around Woman's Day (an South African public holiday 9 August) we have a picnic in the park. We invite all our friends and family and anyone they want to invite to bring a blanket and a basket. There is always a platoon of balls available for the kids to play with and if that no longer holds there interest there are trees aplenty just begging to be conquered.

Its a lazy day filled with laughter of children and adults alike and fundamentally important to us. We all live such busy hustle bustle lives that we forget that we don't need a birthday or big life event to get together. We can simply get together for the joy of spending time with the people we care about.

The highlight of these picnics are party toys, cheap toys like weird flyers or flimsy planes with little props and we all stand in a line count to 3 and let them fly! the ensuing laughter is electric, adults and kids alike run around after their planes to set them flying again.

Now this is purely not an opinionated entry, I merely want to record the joy I feel when we share our lives with those we love.
